Cricket NL will be starting off-season training this week with a fitness session at the Works track on Wednesday at 5:30 pm. We also have a provisional booking for Saturdays 6-7:30 pm at Macdonald Drive Elementary for indoor practice and skills work.
Sessions are open to all who wish to improve their fitness and cricketing skills irrespective of ability. For those interested in representing the province at the Eastern T20 this summer, the sessions are highly recommended – and attendance may be taken into consideration in selection.
Weekday sessions will be focused on improving fitness, with a mix of distance running, and interval training. Last winter, those who attended these sessions had success in fitness testing, and noticed a significant impact on their summer cricket with better stamina and endurance reflected in better performances. Access to the track is free for MUN students, and costs $3 for non-students.
Weekend sessions will combine some fitness work with cricket based drills, and fielding practice. We are restricted to the use of soft practice balls in the gym. The gym costs us $30/ session, so participants will be asked to contribute $5 to offset costs. Sessions will only continue if attendance merits it.
