Cricket NL will be holding a selection camp to finalise the pool for provincial consideration on Sunday June 4 12-6 pm at Wishingwell nets. In order to develop a schedule we need to know availability so if you plan to attend, please let Dave Liverman know. If you don’t indicate your attendance ahead of time then you may find there’s no slot allocated for you in the nets.
Any player who did not previously fill in the provincial team survey but still wants to be considered should email cricketnewfoundland@gmail.com
After this camp we will be reducing the pool to around 20 players. Selection of this long list will be based on past performance and experience, fitness testing, and performance at the selection camp. Attendance is not mandatory, but is highly recommended if you wish to be considered for provincial selection.
Players are reminded that selection for the provincial pool is dependent on attempting fitness tests, and achieving the minimum recommended standard will weigh heavily in consideration.
Anyone who has not yet attempted the beep test will have the opportunity to do so at the beginning of the Sunday session. Those who have not attempted the test cannot take part in the rest of the session.
The schedule/ plan for the camp is as follows:-
12 pm-1 pm warm up, and beep test
1 pm- 2:30 pm – bowling evaluation
2:30 pm-3:30 pm – fielding evaluation
3:30 pm-6 pm- nets
Those who want to be considered as batsmen only and have already run the beep test may wish to come to warm up at 2 pm.
Bowling: The objective of this evaluation is to collect basic data on bowler’s ability to bowl accurately. Each bowler will bowl 3 overs in the nets with no bats, and line/ length targets marked.
Fielding: players will be evaluated on boundary fielding- catching and throwing, and fielding in the circle – catching, throwing and direct hits.
This will be followed by full nets. Bats will have a minimum of 15 minutes, perhaps longer depending on numbers. A schedule will be developed ahead of time. Bats will be expected to simulate match conditions in their time in the nets.
Bring your own equipment if you have it, and be prepared for the weather
