#Historyrepeatsitself. Above is a black and white picture of St. John’s Cricket club taken in 1850. Before the confederation days and when Newfoundland was part of the British empire, Cricket was a popular sport in Newfoundland. With men dressed in smart outfits with ties, waistcoats, pocket watches & hats got together to play a game of cricket. I can only imagine a 5-day game called a test match. It’s hard not to notice the mustaches! As I write this post, the Jersey’s and facial hair are still under consideration for the NL provincial team for the 2017 Eastern Canada Cricket Tournament. We shall keep you updated.
