Cricket Newfoundland and Labrador were invited by Provincial Historic Sites to provide a cricket demonstration as part of Canada Day celebrations in Trinity Bight. Dave Liverman and Rakesh Negi showed an enthusiastic group of local kids the basics of the game.
The event marks the return of cricket to the area after 100 years. Trinity had an active cricket team in the 19th and early 20th Century, regularly playing matches against teams from Bonavista, Catalina, Hearts Content, Harbour Grace and St. Johns. The Trinity Museum features a photograph of the 1896 team and old cricket bats including one used in a match against St. John’s in 1910 (which Trinity won).
